:: Double Happiness ::
I am searching for the right professional literary agent to represent
Double Happiness, my book

recounting my coming of age in China. "A trek across China and through the soul of a young American." If you are, or can recommend, a literary agent experienced with travel literature and cross-cultural narrative nonfiction,
contact me for a query letter or partial manuscript!
Double Happiness explores China, Chinese culture, and the experience of coming of age in a foreign land with humor, curiosity, spiritual honesty, and a rugged sense of adventure.
Excerpt! China, an anthology of travel writing on China, published by Travelers' Tales Press, includes a short excerpt from Double Happiness.

:: Jalisco Journey ::
JAN 2008 - I meandered through Mexico, gorging on gorgeous guacamole in Guadalajara, tasting tequila in Tequila, perusing posole in Puerto Vallarta, cruising courtyards in Colima, venturing to volcanoes in various venues, and finally finding my family for an arranged rendezvous - and it's all in Mexication - Being and Becoming, the third chapter of the Dispatch from Silence and Distant Sunlight, mentioned below.
:: Silent Vipassana Retreat ::
DEC 2007 - I sat a 10-day silent meditation retreat in the forests of northern California. "The universe was my Nosestrils." It's all covered in Dispatch from Silence and Distant Sunlight.
:: On The Scene and Green ::
MAY 2007 - I offer my occasional commentary on local and national politics at my Garlic & Grass blog, On The Scene and Green, partially inspired by a decision on the part of the San Francisco Chronicle to deputize me as a citizen blogger for their online coverage of the 2008 presidential race.
:: theRelaxative ::
JAN 2007 - I'm not eating. Fasting, cleansing body and soul, exploring the facades and frustrations of hunger, I'm doing the Master Cleanse. And along with Daimian Holiday Scott, my partner in cleansing, I'm writing about it daily. Read of my insights at the Relaxative.
:: World Cup 2006 ::
AUG 2006 - I've returned from a journey through Europe to see the World Cup. Follow me as I visit friends, climb Alps, race down the Autobahn, and find myself in stadiums, pubs, bars, homes, churches, cafes, and clearings in the woods to witness matches of the biggest competition on earth, the World Cup. All the action is in Wandering World Cupward 2006.
:: DraftMatt.com ::
APR 2006 - I've launched this site to organize the grassroots energy in San Francisco calling for authentic representation in Congress. The eastern half of San Francisco is currently represented by Nancy Pelosi, whose record is far worse than she would have us believe. Matt Gonzalez has the fame and faith among San Franciscans to beat Pelosi; and he has the demonstrated integrity to take a stand and improve the national and global debate about war and peace, civil liberties, the environment, healthcare, exploitative globalization, and the whole range of patriotic progressive ideas San Franciscans hold dear.
Sign the petition at DraftMatt.com and read The Truth About Nancy [Note- DraftMatt.com is dormant as of 1/1/08].
:: G&G ::
JAN 2006 - I'm exceptionally busy as webmaster and publisher of Garlic & Grass, an online political magazine. Check out the current issue at www.garlicandgrass.org. My latest piece is Spirit Matters: An Interview with Rabbi Michael Lerner, in which a visionary man calls for a powerful new spiritual
foundation to progressive politics that would take us beyond mere critiques of the use of money and power, and actually address humanity's deep hunger for connection, community, and love.
:: Peru ::
OCT 2005 - I've finally returned from my nine-month odyssey through the ancient land of the Incas. Inhale the Sky: An Exploration of Peru and the Andes is my collected writings, in seven parts, that recounts the mountains I climbed, ceviches I tasted, ruins I contemplated, buses I missed, and lovers and friends I was blessed to meet. I even learned Spanish, but I can barely believe it all happened.
